Magic Sales for Harry Potter

"Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince" creates magic at the top of the DVD charts this week, as the sixth movie of the series debuts at number one with first week sales of 5.7 million units. Although the previous two movies opened with 7 million in 2006-2007 the DVD market was stronger back then. In fact, every title of the "Harry Potter" series has managed to have first week sales of more than 5 million.

"Harry Potter" also surpassed James Bond (007) as the movie franchise with the most number one DVD hits. James Bond has had 5 #1 DVD hits. Earlier this year "Quantum of Solace" peaked at #2 (behind "Twilight").

"Public Enemies" enters at #2 with 1.1 million. For the third consecutive week Chrstian Bale has a different DVD title at number two. On 29 November with "The Dark Knight", then on 6 December with "Terminator: Salvation", and now with "Public Enemies". It's also the biggest DVD chart hit for Johnny Depp since "Sweeney Todd" which peaked at #2 in April 2007.

Similar first week sales for "Julie & Julia". Meryl Streep had a huge DVD seller last year with "Mamma Mia". It's Amy Adams' highest chart hit since the #1 DVD "Enchanted" in March 2008.

"Lost 5" enters the VS chart at #8 with 248.000 units. The previous seasons had bigger first week sales. "Season 2" debuted at number one in September 2006 with 900.000 units.
